Description

An English bronze cauldron with the Sturton four arc foundry mark and the WM mark of William Sturton II. The foundry was based in South Petherton, Somerset and production ranged from the 1630's to the 1690's. It is 190mm in diameter from rim to rim and is 185mm high and weighs nearly 3 kilos. There are numerous small chaplets or spaces and the flash line can clearly be seen where the two halves were joined in manufacture. It stands clear of the ground on it's three ribbed legs and also has two lug handles. The rim has a small V shaped piece missing (see photos) and also has a tiny fracture on the other side of the rim; otherwise it is in very good condition with a very pleasing patina. Circa 1665.

For further information on posnets/skillets please see English Bronze Cooking Vessels by Butler and Green.

Postage and packing for the UK is from £8.90, from £25.90 for Europe  and from £44.90 Worldwide.
